80 Lowers with Jigs

Need help buying or building? Our FAQ page covers it all.

New to building your first AR from scratch? You may be familiar with 80% lowers and how this project works, but you might be unsure which jig and tools you need. We made it convenient to pick up everything you need to get started on your first 80% rifle or pistol build. Each 80% lower listed is paired with the right hardware.

What's Included

  • (1) 80% lower
  • (1) 80% jig
  • (1) Drill bit set
  • (1) End mill bit/set
  • Machining instructions

Additional Tools Required

The jig and lower kit will get you all the important parts required for your build. You'll need to provide some basic power tools -- like a drill press -- to work the jig and receiver. This guide covers the other tools required

How to Complete the Lower

Every 80% lower is different. Some are made from billet, some are forged, and others are made from weapons-grade polymer. Each jig is also different in appearance. The AR platform, however, is largely universal with heavily standardized parts comprising the receiver itself. That means that no matter the brand, caliber, or AR type (.308, 9mm, 300 Blackout, or 5.56 or .223), the fabrication required to made the receiver functional is all generally the same.  We wrote an in-depth instructional guide that shows how to complete an 80% lower receiver using a typical jig.

There are four steps to complete:

  1. Cut the cavity for the lower parts kit
  2. Drill the hammer pin hole
  3. Drill the trigger pin hole
  4. Drill the safety lever hole

This guide uses the Elite Builder Jig shown on this page paired with either billet or forged lowers. Armed with these tools, steps, and measurements, no experience is required for you to complete your first lower.

Jig, Lower, and Parts Compatibility

The jig included with each combo kit is guaranteed to work with the included polymer, forged, or billet 80% lower. Most AR-15 jigs are universal, too. Unless otherwise stated, the AR-15, AR-10, or AR9 jig you receive with your kit will work with other 80% lowers of the same platform or caliber. The same rules apply for the drill bits and end mills you receive with your kit. All bits are made from high-speed steel or carbide, allowing you to easily complete multiple lowers.
